Prayer Shawls

Everyone enjoys feeling loved. A prayer shawl is one way to show you care. Life is filled with unexpected difficulties. It is always nice to be reminded that someone has prayed for you and that you are remembered in prayer. A prayer shawl can be that source of comfort. Prayer shawls are easily made. There are several free patterns available on-line or one can be created with your favorite stitch. They may be knitted, crocheted, quilted or made with a no sew fleece. The material, style, size, color or texture make no difference. The point is that you care, you pray and you give. What a blessing to everyone!

The ladies of Bald Knob, AR had a prayer shawl exchange and tea. I still use mine and I know some of the other ladies do too. Some of us have even continued to make prayer shawls for others.

Years ago....when I was a young girl....(no comments, please)...the ladies of our community used to make quilts together as a community project. The quilts were used to give to families after a house fire. They all loved to quilt and they used that talent to be a blessing to the local community. The spirit of serving others is always a blessing.

Today's society is lacking in teaching the spirit of servitude. I presented a lesson at a Home School Meeting on teaching the spirit of servitude through crafts. Find something that you or a young person is interested in learning. Take a small project and turn it into a blessing to others by giving of your talent. I have seen young children make cross bookmarkers (ribbon/plastic canvas) who learned what a joy it is to give of their talents to others. I saw a young lady who was backward and with low self esteem learn to crochet potholders. Serving others changed her life. The scripture speaks of it being more blessed to give than to receive. Prove God and be blessed while being a blessing.
